Featured Project: St Lukes School
A flagship project in ABA Studio's educational portfolio is the renovation and expansion of St Luke’s School, a New York City private school serving students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
The St Luke’s project required an architectural transformation of a 1955 school facility, sitting above the PATH train tunnel, doubling its size in a very conservative Landmarked district.
The design challenge involved transforming an inward-facing institution, originally built for a previous era of education, into an outward-facing campus that accommodates the entire K-8 student body and added a gym and a rooftop playground.
The completed project, a renovation plus a 22,000-square-foot addition delivered in three phases between 2012 and 2016 successfully expanded the school and increased enrollment.
Each of the three construction phases was carefully sequenced to minimize disruption to St Luke’s academic calendar. This process required community engagement, legal coordination, and environmental studies in parallel with design and construction. The project serves as a model for delivering complex urban K-8 school renovations without compromising the student experience.
