Andrew Bartle was a partner in the firm Architrope and assisted in the design of the Knickerbocker House SRO, a 24,000 square foot residence for mentally-ill veterans funded by the NYS Office of Mental Health. Sited in a dense urban neighborhood comprising of a mix of frame buildings and multi-family dwellings, the five-story masonry building, a prototype for special-needs housing, combines four floors of studio units with a ground floor of program spaces. These south-facing congregate spaces include a large dining room with commercial kitchen, living room, library, and exercise room, all opening onto a 4,000 square foot garden.
